I don't really like Kerr so would like to blame him, but I actually thought the fall was Giles' fault. Although it didn't look like Giles was intentionally cutting off Kerr, so unfortunate accident, but I didn't attribute malice to anyone involved. That said, intentional or not, Giles did cut in front of Kerr, so if anyone should be DQ'd it should be Giles and if anyone should be pissed it should be Kerr.
The real question for me is what would have the results been if the fall hadn't occurred? Does Ben Pattison still win or does Kerr pass on the inside and take the W? Where do Giles and Burgin finish? I think Burgin loses to either Kerr or Giles or both.
And another thing, I don't agree with UK Athletics' decision to pick Jake Wightman over Giles for the discretionary spot. You're picking the guy who is too injured to race the trials over the guy who would have been in contention to win if it wasn't for a fall? IMO if you're so injured you have to skip the trials, then you're too injured to be selected for the Olympic team.
Giles was already going backwards and would likely have finished 5th or 6th. I also think his poor performance at euros in the final along with never making a world or Olympic final makes it a pretty easy choice to select Wightman over Giles with the championship success Wightman has had
Giles left gap on inside (was running on very outside of lane1 coming into home straight), looked like he was drowning in lactic/losing momentum, knew he was being well beaten on the outside, sensed he was going to be passed on the inside and trying to hold on to podium spot belatedly tried to close the door on lane1. May or may not have known it was Kerr coming through on the inside but he was very much at fault and hopefully didn't badly hurt GB's one legitimate chance of a distance medal/gold in Paris this summer [Kerr]. Cannot understand the venom being directed at Kerr over this incident. Giles should've been DQ'd. Malicious.
I just rewatched it. I think he could've held off Burgins but he would not have beaten Kerr and Pattison. 3rd/4th place without the collision. Solid interviews by Kerr and Giles after the race.

Just to be clear, the video of the Giles interview in Post #11 is from after the European Championships 800 when Giles finished 7th. The Giles interview is not from after the UK Trials 800 when Giles and Kerr fell.
Giles was 100% at fault, and committed and illegal and malicious cut in.
Kerr had gained position legally, and Giles knocked him over. You cannot cut inside on someone, that's illegal, unethical, and ruined both of their chances. What an idiot!
Looked to me like Giles purposely took down Kerr, and took him down hard. I hope Kerr is okay.
Tell the board you've never been in massive oxygen debt at the end of an 800m without telling the board you've never been in massive oxygen debt at the end of an 800m.
What people like yourself are forgetting with this idiotic narrative that Giles did anything on purpose is that Giles himself lost out on this big time, could have been hurt just as bad as Kerr and also must be assumed to be complete psychopath to want to actively bring down another guy and seriously hurt him.
Sometimes the stuff that gets typed on these threads with essentially zero thought beyond the most basic surface level is both shocking and depressing.

No you're an idiot and your handle name couldn't be more apt. You ever run a race where your elbow gets slightly clipped from behind - especially at the end of an 800m when you are heavily fatigued? Your body moves unconsciously to stabilize itself and find equilibrium - in this case for Giles, it meant lurching back to the left and into Kerrs path. But that is not his fault. And if you care to even watch the incident closely you actually see that Giles looks to his right which is the complete opposite of where you would look if you wanted to pull a "oh here's a dude on the inside line of me let me step in front of him and cause mass carnage and potential injury for us both".
You guys are so stupid it defies belief. Go ahead vote this down, you have no idea what you are talking about.
