I’ve been training my sprint for a couple of months now, and still havent found much progress.
I dedicate a day each week to nothing but speed and sprint training (primarily a long distance runner, with no speed - 13’ 100 and 27’ 200m in spikes - goals of getting that down to 12 and 25) with an easy day before and after. I do a lengthy warmup with plyos, strides, drills etc. And then go into 2-3sets of 5x5-6sec max sprint work, with long breaks between sprints (usually 3min) and even longer between sets (6-8min) I don’t find them comfortable at all, mostly I just feel like I’m tensing up. I’ve started to incorporate more 8-12sec sprints, which feels better in the sense of I touch upon my max velocity, where as in the shorter sprints I just do a tense stumble of powerless first steps before I have to stop. I know training is not supposed to be exhausting, and to quit before I’m tired, but I want some progress.
Is this just the way it is? Stick with the short training? Do I need to do weights?
