Didn’t want to be to bump the 2023 thread. this year we could see a lot of switch ups but the cream always rises to the top.
There is a lot of new developments that could happen this season including the addition of At Large bids to state for all divisions. I think this will make state more competitive at the top as the teams that should be there will either qualify or get an at large bid.
Below are my predictions discuss and I might give more opinions:
BOYS
4A: Issaquah(cannot argue with the Rickey/Yahn pedigree)
3A: The GSL could have a strong showing this year from Cheney and Mt Spokane, I’m also to see if Mercer Island can piece together 4-7, if that gap to 3rd can shrink they could be lethal.
2A: Sehome, nuff said. Ellensburg and Ridgefield could be duking it out for 2nd though and you never know what drama can unfold at state.
1A: CPC/Bush, the private schools reign supreme in the smaller division, I’m sure Duncan F-S(Bush) will be looking to lead his team to an upset against CPC
1B/2B: Valley Christian, returns every runner from state championship team. Team actually plans/has been training this summer so that could make the margins increase compared to 2nd place.
GIRLS
4A: Mt. Si > Issaquah, hard to argue with the 1-2 punch.
3A: Bishop Blanchet is young but experienced, can Central Kitsap Bounch back after losing 4-7 who were seniors? I
2A: Sehome and Anacortes have pretty similar spreads through there bottom varisty runners but sehome is placing higher.
1A: Lakeside (NMF), the girls culture at Lakeside seems to be on another upswing even without coach Olsen at the helm. With veteran leadership this will be the team to beat. Seattle academy has an outside chance due to trans athlete competing as girl.
1B/2B: Pope John Paul 2, at state track they had 5 girls running the 3200 only 1 was a senior. Lots of younger girls who now have a full year experience in the sport may lead them to another title.
I’m pretty familiar with all the GSL/NEA teams so I can review more info on specific teams in those leagues.
