UK and France both swing hard to the libs despite polls, pundits, vibes predicting otherwise. What’s going on? Will the red wave ever arrive anywhere that matters?
I don't believe the France election results for a second
It’s possible.
Many left wing candidates stood down, to allow for tactical voting. Rather than split the liberal / left vote across two or three parties, they centralise into one.
Of course, you now get a hung parliament that does nothing and achieves nothing.

Or Le Pen is retarded and people rightfully don’t want her in power.
My take is that Europeans (and Americans) don't mind some centrist conservative thinking, but they rightfully fear reactionary Far-Right policies. There is much to like about limited government, lower taxes, regulatory reform, and smarter immigration policies. When a party or candidate starts to vilify their opposition, ethnic groups, and speaks of revenge and purity, then is resurrects the specter of fascism and no fair-minded individual pines for oppression.

Which is still a victory for National Rally. They forced this result - or Macron did - but it was NR showing in the EU elections that caused his "snap" judgment. Now it is coming back to bite him in the az.
It feels like right wing populism will take a back seat for at least a parliament in the UK. Whether the Labour government manages to suppress it longer term is in their hands.
Absolutely crushing for the RN tonight though, they thought it would be them that ousts Macron, but now appears forces to their left of Macron will do so instead. Whether the left alliance manages to stay together and form a government is tbc, if they can't - that possibly re-galvanizes the RN.

NR imploding and performing at 50% the level they expected is good? Never touching power in France? Seriously this is cataclysmic for their future. Le Pen is likely done.
History shows that far right politics never succeed in the long run. Sure, they have their moments like they are now in the US, but in general their policies are eventually rejected and also in general not continued to be supported by the right. It was the right that was opposed to civil rights (I don't care if most of them were Democrats at the time. They all became Reagan Republicans.) How did that work out Tim Scott and Clarence Thomas? The right was opposed to women rights. How'd that work out MTG and Hoebert? The right was against removing religion from schools. Ok, the nut jobs are trying to restore that but even with a corrupt Supreme Court are doomed to fail. Hey, remember when the right was opposed to big government and deficit spending? How'd that work out Trump? The only consistent policy the right has maintained is low taxes - no matter how much that increases the debt.
Particularly amusing as the results haven't even been released yet. This was just the exit poll.
Exit polls are generally very accurate.
The exit poll for the UK election has been absolutely bang on for about 30 years now thanks to Sir John Curtice.
I know that, but it's still not the result. You can't claim it's rigged until you at least know the result, unless you (they) think the exit poll is rigged too.
