1. The weather was perfect today which helped some of the performances. There were some gusts of wind (especially during the 800, so I was a bit surprised by the times) but otherwise a cool 69-70 degrees.
2. This is the first major track meet I’ve been to in a long time and first international meet for me, and the atmosphere was incredible and much more exciting than back in the U.S.
3. Because of my above observation, I feel like Track and Field may never catch on with the public at large due to the fact that there’s a HUGE gap in engagement when watching on TV vs being there in person. My S/O who isn’t a fan was cheering, standing up and dancing, waving the flags, asking all kinds of questions, etc.
Being an American, what was the general response of the French there to you (once they found out you're American)?
What does 1:41 look like in person?
In general in the city, everyone has been very friendly and accommodating. I know basic French phrases to help get around and ask for help, order food etc. but everyone I’ve dealt with knows English and is happy to accommodate.
Even more so at the track meet. I had several people ask me about what we were doing there, my background in running, etc.
Absolutely crazy to experience in person. I knew it was fast when I saw 48.7 on the split from the pacer but to see athletes up close run so fast feels real in a new and unique way.
