Myers also did great with 2:17.44 and a 5th place.
(Myers is one year and two months younger than Laros)
A shame he isn't going to the Olympics. It's gonna be really exciting to follow these two guys in the coming years. Laros has barely raced this year (I guess he has been injured), but this was really promising. He must be capable of some really fast 800m and 1500m times at the moment.

I like Myers but 2:17 is not great. It’s worth probably a 1:46-high/3:34. Stewy’s 7:29 run at Paris was way better if we are being objective. I still can see the argument to make Myers as Stewy will be in the 5,000.
This is a solid mark for Laros. Probably indicates he’s in 1:44-mid/3:31 shape if not better consider how he closed looking easy. We’ll see in Monaco and I would not be shocked if he hits 3:29. He’s that talented.
I agree that Stewy deserves an Olympic spot more than Myers. But Myers is currently the second fastest Australian in the world this year in the 1500m. He has also done great times, and showed a solid range in 2024:
800m: 1:47.11 (1110 pts)
1000m: 2:17.44 (1124 pts)
1500m: 3:33.30 (1198 pts)(right behind his last year PB of 3:33.26)

Thanks for saying it; I was reluctant to be misconstrued as a hater. For Myers, 2:17.44 might be worth 3:34 but on its own merit it’s not worth that fast. World Athletics calc v.2019 says 3:38.36 FWIW.
Elliott Cook at 2:18.11 is a little disappointing too—granted, he might be jet lagged and it’s been a long season for him already. I’m a little surprised he went over to Europe at all, actually.

He’s a great runner. Most 3:33 guys can run 1:47 and 7:46.
How is he allowed to look that fresh after a 2:14? I am sitting here dying for bits and pieces of anything and he out here doing that and running and cheering through the tape.

I saw this as well, 2:17 for someone who just turned 18 not too long ago is impressive considering he’s more of a 1500m/3000m type athlete. Although it’s worth mentioning he does have a pretty good 800m PB of 1:47.11 and I appreciate just how much he’s been racing even if it hasn’t always gone how he wanted.
Exactly. For comparison, Hobbs Kessler ran 2:16.46 aged 19 years and 5 months. It wouldn't surprise me if Myers is able to run faster than that next summer.
(IF he runs the distance. I've been watching a lot of Diamond Leagues/Golden Leagues through the years, and I think I can count all the 1000m races I've seen on one hand.)

His last instagram post indicates that he is going to the Olympics. Wasn’t he selected?
