Should be a fun one. It's Sunday 10 am ET to 12 noon and then we'll do a live reaction show right after.
Here is what I'm looking to learn.
Men's 400h: dos Santos - How does the Brazilian star look?
I can't wait for the 400h at the Olympics and this is one of the big 3. He's the youngest and I kind of think he'll end up being the Djokovic of the event.
Men's 800 - Does Hoppel have a shot at a medal? Bryce isn't even in this race but we have 3 of the 4 biggest medal contenders I'd rank ahead of him in Kinyamala, Wanyonyi and Sedjati (Arop obvioulsy as well but he's not in this race. I don't get why Arop never races). Sedjati has a slower pb than Hoppel but wiped the floor of him before USAs.
Men's steeple -Who is the favorite for bronze after the big 2? Neither Ethiopia's Girma or Morocco's El Bakkali are in this one but pretty much everyone else is. All 3 Kenyan Olympians are in here plus New Zealand's Geordie Beamish (5th at WOrlds) and the Japanese 6th placer from Worlds (Miura).
Women's 400 - Who is the favorite for Olympic gold?
The 1-2 from Budapest are in this one in Paulino vs Kaczmarek + Eid Naser.
Men's 3000: Why is this non DL event on the schedule? If you think watching unrabbited 3s and 5s in the MJ track league is going to be exciting next year, this is the event for you. THere is only one person in the field i care about and that's Jacob Krop. He's on KEnya's 5000 team so I"ll be watching to see if he looks better than Grant Fisher?
Men's 200: Might Uganda's Tarsis Orogot (19.75 pb this year) be able to prevent the American sweep at the Olympics?
Women's steeple: How does everyone not named Beatrice CHepkoech look? Besides Chepkoech, this field includes Yavi (8:50 pb) and Jackline Chepkoech )(8:57 pb) but either has broken 9:19 this year. Do they step up? If so, then Val Constien's medal hopes drop precipitously.
Women's 1500: How strong does Kipyegon look and how good does the 2nd placer look? Whoever gets 2nd in this race likley will have a decent shot at a bronze in the 1500. Do they look better than the Americans?
