There is no way to tell what going to 50mpw would do for you as everybody's level of talent is a variable, the quality and consistency of the mileage is a variable, your age is a variable, etc. It's generally safe to assume that running more will make you better at running but it's not necessarily the case if it opens you up to injury risk.
FWIW, at age 17 I ran 4:50 for the 1,600 and 17:5x for 5,000 on an average 30ish miles per week. At age 22 I ran 1:49 in the 800, 4:03 in the mile and 14:3x for 5,000 on an average of 35-40 miles per week. Simply increasing mileage wasn't the big factor, it was getting older and running the mileage I could handle for an extended period of time.

I think the quality of the miles is what will be the difference between improving person to person at the same mpw. What you can handle may be somewhat genetics but also how well you allow yourself to recover (sleep, nutrition and easy runs easy). Also how you increase in order to stay healthy, plenty of people try to jump mileage assuming it will make them faster and end up injured because they ignored how their body felt. Moral of the story more mileage isn’t always better so it depends on the person and situation mostly.
