Seeing if anyone else feels like this or has any tips to make road races feel better. The last few times I've done road races, I've been surprised how early my legs are in the hurt locker and feel super beat up after. I did a 5k yesterday that had some gradual hills but nothing crazy, yet I was feeling my legs by the first mile mark. It wasn't like I completely bonked or anything but I was just surprised how bad my legs felt early, despite the pace being pretty reasonable. I do almost all my runs on the roads, so it's not like I'm un-adapted to concrete/asphalt and I try to mix up my workouts on bike paths and tracks. Is it just harder for me to run fast paces on the roads or is there something I can do to fix this?
