I understand that Threshold is supposed to be the pace I can hold for about an hour under ideal race conditions - using a recent 10k race, the VDOT calculator spit out 6:57/mile for me.
Although in theory this is my 'official' threshold pace, I find that a 20 minute block of running at this pace during training can feel very taxing and something that I definitely don't think I could not hold for an hour.
My question is - since the pace was calculated using a race under ideal weather conditions and after a proper taper, does it really make sense to train at this pace while it's hotter outside and I've been accumulating 30+ miles of training per week?
Should I be adjusting my threshold pace downward to take into account external factors and the training stress?
Basically, is it better to be slightly overshooting or undershooting the intensity that I do these workouts at?
