I always say "5,000" when referring to a track race of 5,000 meters and "5K" when referring to anything the same distance off the track - XC, roads, trails, whatever. It was suggested to me yesterday that my insistence on thi...
5000 meters team should be Parker Wolfe, Graham Blanks, and Dylan Jacobs, so that there are three Americans.
LRC note: This post should not have been deleted by a volunteer moderator. I'm sure it was deleted as the moderator viewed it incorrectly as being racist. In fact, it was quite clever. The poster was correctly pointing out that neither Fisher (a white man) or Nur (a black man) were born in the US. The post was race neutral.
I hope Wolfe goes. beat Blanks at the trials if that makes any difference. He’s not far off the standard, probably would’ve hit it if it was cooler but I don’t fully understand the process about unlocked spots and the trials and world rankings. it’s too complicated and should be simplified

It’s not a decision or debate. Everyone qualifies under the same rules. Blanks has the standard and Wolfe does not. If three qualified runners scratch, from a country with no replacement, Wolfe would go. If not its Blanks.
By that logic, the only "Americans" are the Native Americans (Indians/First Nations). most of us on this forum - whether white, black, Asian, etc. - shouldn't be allowed to compete for this country either!
At what point does someone become American enough?
Edit: Abdi is legally an American citizen, that's good enough for me.

This is the definitive answer I was looking for. Thanks.
Does anyone know when the selection will be finalized?

It must be weird for both of them. I assume that both did a track workout yesterday or today, not knowing if their season is over or not. Whoever does not qualify will surely shut it down as soon as they know.
However, if Wolfe qualifies, then Blanks is the alternate. But what are the odds that you actually go as the alternate. Does he keep training just in case?
If Blanks qualifies, then McGorty is the alternate. McGorty will be racing in Europe anyway, I am sure, so he could step in easily.
weird take considering 4 americans beat jacobs and jacobs doesn’t have the standard anyway
Fisher and Nur weren't born here.
The fact that Fisher was born in Canada is one of the weirdest fun facts in US track right now. Assuming he has citizenship there as a result, a few years back they could have had a 5k squad of Ahmed, Fisher, and Justyn Knight which would have gone 2-7-9 at the Olympics and been the best country in the event that year. Would have been pretty random but kind of awesome too.

It must be SO weird. They’ll only be in limbo for one week but I’m sure it has felt like an eternity for them both.
