Tomorrow’s 4 miler race for the 4th of July will be 83 degrees at the start with 95% humidity. I’ve seen runners and read articles about the benefits of dumping a cup of water on your head during a race in these conditions to help keep cool.
Has anyone ever had friends at the halfway point literally dump a bucket of ice cold water on you under these conditions and does it help?
I’m a terrible heat runner. When it is 40 degrees out I can run a sub-17 5K without much effort but when it is 80 degrees I struggle to get under 18:38 and am usually light headed and throwing up at the end.
