Looking through some of the national champs results from the weekend that I didn't watch and I noticed a couple interesting results from the French champs. Does anyone know their qualification process, is it top 2 + discretionary pick? thanks
800 - Tual continued his good form winning here in 1:43.99 after winning the Euro title. He's the 13th fastest in the world this year and 11th out of those expected to compete. Benjamin Robert was in 2nd 1 sec behind but hasn't looked as good this year. Clorentin Le Clezio was 3rd ahead of Yanis Yeziane who looked very good last year but seems to be struggling as of late. All 4 have the standard.
1500 - Azeddine Habz (3:43.99) was beaten in a slow race by Romain Mornet (3:43.76) and Maël Gouyette (3:43.86). Definitely an upset here, but that looks like the team
3000m SC - 35 year old Nicolas-Marie Daru won in 8:24.37. He only started competing in 2021 it would appear, might be the oldest steepler in the Olympic field? Louis Gilavert 2nd and Euro champ Alexis Miellet in 3rd. Euro silver medalist Djilali Bedrani (8:05 PB/8:13 SB) was 4th. I guess they take Miellet over Bedrani but I was surprised by this result slightly after it looked like Bedrani was getting back to form this year.
5000 - Yann Schrub won, Hugo Hay 3rd, I guess they'll join Gressier in the team because 2nd placer Romain Legendre won't qualify I think.
For women Ranelle Lamote didn't run the 800 final for some reason and Euro champ Alice Finot easily won the steeple but not as many French women in the distance squad as men it would appear.
