Really shouldn't have tried that 400 double. Ends up 4th. Brutal
Oh, but Sydney should run the double, right?
Yes, because Sydney is dominating the event. That's the difference. The 400 hurdles is only exciting if Syd can break the world record. Syd literally beat the field by two seconds. She has plenty of room to spare. Little was did not have that luxury and knew that going in.

She didn't intend to do the double. That was the whole problem.
If she had intended to do the double, she would have taken it much easier in the first round of the 400, saving some energy for the 400 final. And if she hadn't finished in the top 3 in the 400 final, she would have at least run her way onto a 4x400 team, which would have been her first time as an Olympian.
Instead she stupidly went all out in the first round of the 400 because she only intended to run one round of the 400, because she said she was "bored." That's about as dumb a reason as I've ever heard. Her inability to control her boredom means that she isn't an Olympian this year and she'll probably never be an Olympian.

There is no difference. Shamier won silver at last year Worlds. Now she will not make the Olympic team. She should have at least placed 3rd. Racing the 400M is taxing on your body. Every round adds more lactic acid that your body cannot get rid of. You are required to race a 400M every day straight. The 200/400 is less stressful on the body and yet there have only ever been four athletes who have successfully done it. And someone must do the two most difficult races in the same championships. Hell no. There is no point to doubling.
And Sydney is dominating the event, because she's focus on one event.
Why don't you suggest that Warholm turn his attention to the 400 and double as well.

So why did she return to run the semi and then the final? Makes even less sense.
Greatest women's hurdler to never make the Olympics and I don't think anybody is ever going to ever come close. That's sad man. Two WC Medals in her career, world junior champion, 5th fastest all time. It's like it's written for some athletes to never go to the Olympics (Brazier). Imagine randoms asking Brazier "but did you ever go to the Olympics?", tragic.
She is 29 now. An olympic appearance in the 400m hurdles or the 400m is unlikely in 2028 olympics (age 33). Effectively, her career is over with respect to any future Olympics appearances.
Note how Dalilah MUHAMMAD, who is 34 and 3rd fastest hurdler of all time, failed to qualify for the olympics.

It's really a shame that she doesn't have someone smarter in her corner that could help her make the right decisions. Like a coach could say, here is a small workout to do so you don't get bored, instead of racing the 400 and sabotaging yourself.

Warholm is not dominating the 400 hurdles the way Syd is. Warholm has legitimate rivals like Benjamin and Dos Santos
When Syd started her career, the record was 52.3. Syd has lowered it it to 50.6. There is no one even worthy of being called Syd's rival at this point. Bol's PB is .8 seconds behind Syd. This year Bol is 1.84 seconds behind Syd, and Bol is the second fastest in the WORLD.
Syd also has the #1 400 flat in the world rn, but at least that race would be exciting as there are 11 women within a second of her.
There would be real excitement in the 400 flat. We know Syd can make everyone else in the world look like JV athletes in the 400 hurdles. That's not terribly exciting. The only thing about the 400 hurdles that would be exciting would be Syd breaking 50. Syd has redefined the 400 hurdles and really doesn't have anything left to prove.

I think most of track twitter thought that after she ran that 50.1 prelim that she should just go for it especially since mistakes and errors can happen in the 400mh. It did look like it cost her but she had to be in PR shape regardless so she had no margin of error to make the team with Ellis regaining her form from years ago, Butler recovering from a bad NCAAs, and Holmes timing her season perfectly. Plus that 400mh race was fast. Jasmine Jones just missed setting the All Dates Collegiate record and Shamier has only run faster than that twice. Don't be surprised if she rebounds later in a diamond league race to run 51 high.
