Yall are a bunch of weirdos. I’m glad she’s happier now. College running really isn’t all that for a lot of people. Many people are faster once they quit, and healthier too.
This happens a lot. D1 can be brutal and it sound a bit like my experience minus the ED. Injuries and just feeling lost and somewhat alone without the support you had hoped for. I will say, you grow up a lot and find your support or move on. She is still young and figuring it out, nothing wrong with that.

She doesn't state it outright, but hints at failing out, or at least becoming academically ineligible at both schools due to mental health issues. She was a talented prep runner and had a lot of potential but the mental demons are no joke.

And her mom is too busy being a nutty running influencer herself. I hope she gets support from somewhere.

Spitters are quitters
Quitting school is one thing, quitting social media is quite another....
No doubt social media is the leading cause of her problems. The disease is instagram. The symptoms are the eating disorder, depression, injuries, etc. Along with the weirdos here using keyboards to throw epithets facilitated by Rojo’s arbitrary rules for cyber bullying “public figures” she won’t get better until she cuts the cord. And her mother may be a social media darling but I’ve known her longer than any of you losers and she is actually a fun, nice, charming person.
I'm glad you brought up social media, you have to consider that maybe she didn't feel like a "full human" because she made running her whole personality on her social media.
If you have mental health issues don't disconnect from social media first and foremost you aren't approaching your mental health correctly.
It's fine if she wants to quit or is academically ineligible but social media influencing is dangerous both for herself and for the people who follow her.
She needs to get back to the kitchen
