Most a ran a 54-56 split. Seems to make sense
Because Hocker is just streets ahead of everyone. #6seasonsandamovie
His first 4ks were approximately: 10k pace - 12k pace - half marathon pace - 10k pace. Ripping the last 400 isn’t going to impact his performance 3 days from now. “Jogging it in” in prelims is overemphasized.
There were 6 qualifiers from his heat—5 of 6 ran a 53 for the last 400; the 6th ran 54.
Cole SHOCKER is on a different level right now. That looked way too easy. It’s him and grant for first in the 5k if you don’t think that then tough

Ever run strides at the end of a regular run?
Because he could.

Yeah, if he’d have run 54 high he wouldn’t have qualified. Was he supposed to just give up and not make the final?
Because he didn't feel like closing it in 48.
Because that's what champions do.
Because USADA are doing th testing here so he knows he's safe.

Beat me to it
The 1500 is Hocker's focus. He may be helping his teammate / friend, Cooper Teare. They train together daily and know each other's abilities. Hocker set him up by towing him through an easy path into the final, knowing they are both capable of a very fast last lap. The final is more likely to go like the UCLA race where it is too fast for Hocker to be in the mix with 200m to go, but Teare can hang in there.
However, if Hocker is there with 200m to go, he could be the Trials champ...
The same reason he ran 3:34 in the 1500 prelims: he is laying the foundation for Paris.

He’s planning on closing the Olympic final in 49 so was just a jog for him.

hocker did not tow him through. Teare was in front of him for the majority of the race.
The one where he ran 12:58 and lost to 2 Americans?
Normally, I'd agree with your point. But 3 days before his next race. He probably saw the last lap as staying sharp.
