I'd think if I am Nike I renegotiate Mu's contract dramatically lower. She never races so no brand exposure and now she won't be at the most watched event. IF you give another contract you need to build in a performance clause that requires much more racing.
She is a generational talent that no one ever sees. It's not surprising that a person who never races was bad at racing.
I would think Coleman has a spot on the 4x100. So I assume he keeps training full steam ahead.
Mu "should" get it together and race the diamond league meets, make some $$, and run the fastest time in the world. But who knows what she'll actually do.
For Mu it is just my opinion one of two things will happen:
1) She embraces the fashion world and pampering she seems to have fallen in love with and announces she's stepping away from the sport. She is obviously a generational talent, but she clearly lacks passion for entering the dark cave you must embrace for the 800m event and world class racing. This sport is brutal and requires a grit and mind set to match. You gotta be hardened with something to prove. Right now, not seeing it from her.
2) She throws all that fashion industry crap and conversation in the trash and gets back to medieval in her mind and body using this as a wake-up call setting out to prove she is the best 800m runner in the world.
I remember my side girl saying Mu had the gold locked down for the next 3 Olympics when she won in Tokyo. That comment aged about as well as she did after a Brazilian butt lift surgery.

Just guessing she most likely has a contract through at least the 2028, so they got to pay what the Contract says until then.
She also has another Job as a Model, I don't know how good she is at modeling (I do not even know the Criteria) but if she is one one the best, her pay in Modeling would probably dwarf what she makes in Track, lets say she gets a Million a Year in Track, if she is at the same level as a Model she could get 50 Million, So track to her is like a fun thing, a hobby that she is very good at and the money is not that significant to her. I looked it up Kendall Jenner makes 45 Million a Year as a Model. So if Athing Mu is half as good she makes 22 Million and 500 Thousand so she is almost certainly set for life and so will her Children be if/when she has kids in the future.

Do you take time off? Jump right back into racing? Claim injury?
At some point relatively soon, you have to start racing again to satisfy your sponsors, right?
Get drunk, take a week or two off and with a lot of introspection figure it out. A few years back Kate Grace went and did well in races overseas, or pack it in.
I was in an important meet once and had a "devastating" situation. You may never shake the memory, but if mature enough you can move beyond the "feeling" and use it to grow and learn from.
I honestly don't know if Mu, despite her talent, has her heart in the sport anymore. She's been open about not liking the attention and pressure that comes with pro life at her level in the past. And maybe this doesn't mean much, but I almost feel like you can tell that she's not burning for it when you see her race. Some of that's just her style--some runners look super chill and some look like they're gonna murder anyone in their way--but I get a "not loving this the way I should" vibe from her at trials and also kind of in Budapest last year, despite her bronze finish.

I agree. My heart goes out to her for the fall, but an Athing of 2 years ago would have never been in the pack. Whether she just doesn't have the necessary fitness or her heart just really isn't it, I don't think she was mentally right for the race.
She should take some time off to figure out if track is what she wants to do. And a change of coaches wouldn't hurt, and might help.

It's likely already in the contract. Not making the Olympic team and not being in the top rankings in the World will likely kick in her reduction clause and drastically cut her payment from Nike. Only chance she likely has to save it would be to win the rest of the Diamond League 800s and the final. She gave up a ton of appearance fees not racing pre-Trials and appearance fees for the rest of the year, assuming she races, will be drastically cut since she didn't make the team and won't be a Paris medalist/finalist. When her contract comes up for renewal, it will all depend on if she is actually racing. If she isn't, hardly does, or has poor results, I could see Nike dumping her or making a hugely reduced offer.
Coleman will bag a pair of whereabouts & then set the track ablaze later this summer. Mu will take some time to get fit & then hop in some late season DLs.

You’re vastly overestimating how many models make good money. Kendall Jenner is no longer just a model, she’s a personality that’s had a tv show about her family and is as well known as Hollywoods most famous actresses.
Pretty much all the models I know, even some that walk shows for some of the big brands, don’t make much money and quite a few of them have side gigs, other than those few that had perfume deals or other similar deals that pay better.
