Easily the exceeded expectations the most out of anyone in the field and nearly had Hobbs at the end. Dark Sky is breaking out!

And after rounds. Hope he finds a few more big meets to cash in on.

Indeed, I remember him back in the day in HS. Milesplit says he is just 28th in MD History currently (4:14.xx 1600). Come a long way. Class of 2013 Perry Hall HS.
Between Kelati, Ciattei, and Wilkinson, I'm super impressed with Dark Sky Distance.
Vince is the nicest most humble guy too. Really happy to see him run so well even if he came up just short of making the team.

Totally agree with him being the biggest positive surprise, not just in that race but of the OTs so far (with respect to Drew Hunter, and Kendall Ellis I suppose). He’s now #13 in U.S. history and it sure seems like he could go even faster with a 2nd lap that’s quicker than 59.14.

Would love to see Vince to move back to Blacksburg and work with Hocker and Ben Thomas
This guy was in the mix for years. Every time I look at race results his name is always popping up. Maybe overracing a lot helps for big moments like this, especially for runners with good body strength, making them durable against injuries. Body strength isn't talked about enough on here look at Wynne, Holt, and Ciattei. These guys are kind of ripped, I wouldn't call them "skinny". Again 1-2 of these guys would probably put down a good steeple time.

Wow that 5/20 of the all-time top US marks were just set in one race! Really glad I tuned in
I know ciattei has actually had quite a few injuries that set him back. I know of at least 1 in college and 1 or 2 professionally. Would be curious where he'd be at without those setbacks. I believe he had wins over kerr and nuguse in college

I mean can't go wrong with that, but he's obviously got a good thing going training with Gourley and the rest of that team in Flagstaff. I definitely forget that this guy had two NCAA runner-ups in 2018 (to Kerr and than Hoare).
Hoping this sort of performance opens up the chances for him to run in the Diamond League and other big races.
I want to hear more about Ciattei?
bio?
I rewatched the race and listened to his post race interview, where he actually brought up a detail that I missed (Kessler’s move with 200m to go)
This guy knows how to race. He is no Khan, Nordas, Sahlman, Holt… that’s for sure.
He went straight to the lead and then slowed down ever so slightly. That usually doesn’t work out the best. Unless, of course, Nuguse says prior to the race that he will make it 3:33 race. So he then waited for Nuguse to come in front of him. The whole pack knew this, so they all let Nuguse move to the front.
Who gets the prize spot on the rail behind Nuguse as a result? Ciattei. He then protected that spot. Kessler tried to get it(again and again).
Engels got the 2nd best spot. Right behind Ciattei. He simply did not have the fitness to take full advantage of it, but did leave with a SB and his fastest time since 2021 (2nd best lifetime performance). He had the rail, he was third wheel + he had Kessler/Hocker also blocking the wind on his right side. With only top guys in front of him.
Hocker had the 3rd best spot. He drafted behind Kessler, but of course had to run 10 extra meters because the “rail” spots were already taken. Given his start, that’s the best spot he could take. Engels was not going to be giving up his spot on the rail and going behind Engels would not have been smart.
But let’s go back to Ciattei. He held the rail and his spot the whole way (well almost). With 200m to go, he let Kessler take the rail in front of him. Had he been able to hold him out, then Kessler would have had to run 2 extra meters AND Ciattei would have had a clear shot to the tape. That’s where he lost his Paris spot. Did he really have the strength to hold Kessler off? We will never know.
Perfect race otherwise. Huge PB. Happy to see another smart American 1500m runner.
Are they sponsored by the brewery in town? impressive.
their beer sucks though. Peanut butter and jelly porter. akkkk
