Mike Smith is pretty vague when asked about this, but in one interview he mentioned something about working on Nico’s push off of the ground and having more force behind his strides now. But how they achieved that, I’m assuming drills.
I have seen him do wicket strides that helps I am sure with form and quick steps
Wicket strides. Prevents over-striding and forces shorter, quicker steps. If you look closely at his stride (especially the workout videos) it looks like he's running over wickets. They must have done a ton of drills.
Incidentally, someone had asked Coree Mcgee on IG recently how she got such a beautiful form. She mentioned she did a TON of strides from her early running years.

Its strange and awesome because his stride and form are unchanged, he's just a stronger athlete able to put his foot in the ground at slightly higher Watts/kg than before.
Kessler did it at the same time he described shortening his long runs and adding 40m flies regularly.

I’ve personally watched him destroy “wicket” runs in the Sky Dome when we’ve gone to their meets. Most distance runners do them mindlessly. He’s dialed in and MOVING.
