Unless Corrigan sets up a time trial by the end of next week, Jager is on the team.

Should decline the spot. Go out with pride.

I think that’s right.
I have to imagine they'll do everything they can to try and get him a ranking. How many steeples does he need to run to get a ranking?
That would be awesome if so.
Yes, I think you are right. Rooks, Wilkinson, Jager are all in the top 48 on the Road to Paris list.
Thank you. I was wondering if this would be the case. I don’t see Corrigan running 8:15 (I think that’s the standard) in the tight timeline
He doesn’t deserve it, washed
Welcome to the downvote party brother. The truth isn’t welcome here
Minor point - top 36 is what's needed, not 48, but they have that too when you account for men 4th+ in their country ahead of them who definitely won't take up spots (my interpretation of the 'QP' column).

And you're on a keyboard crying
How is it that the announcers don’t know that Rooks ranking will easily get him in. What a joke.

Evan Jager makes the team, right?
If only there was a track and field journalist here who could investigate and tell us the answer...

Pfffft. Nike contract bonus for an Olympic team, too.

Corrigan needs 3 marks prior to June 30 for a ranking, and to be in the Olympic q window. For trials he gets bonus points too for place.
Perhaps an 8:20 run next weekend would get him close.
Did some quick math on James Corrigan's ranking.
After the trails his ranking points should be 1162pt, which has him ranked 79th in the world rankings. Still a fair way off the quota.
Top 3 performances which will contribute to his 1162pt, 79th world ranking:
1. USAs final 8:26.78: 1137pts +50pts for 3rd place in a B level meet. =1187
2. USAs heat 8:21.22: 1161pts +0 (no additional points for heats). =1161
3. Big 12 champs 8:29.24: 1125pts +12pts for 1st place in a F level meet. = 1137
Final scoring: 1187+1161+1137=3485, 3485/3=1162 (rounded up)
TLDR; yes unless he runs a time trial or another fast time that gets him into the world rankings quota, Jager (who is in the quota) will go to the Olympics.
Side note:
The last guy in the quota right now has 1190pts. Say Corrigan needs 1191pts to be comfortable, that would require him running a 8:07.24 (with no bonus points) to bump his average up.
Obviously he could run slower in a high level meet but in circumstances this last minute, I'm not sure what is available to him.
TLDR; if he only runs once prior to the world rankings cut off, he'd basically need to run the 8:15 Olympic standard.

Leigh Diffey has been messing this up for 3 years now. Literally watch the finals of any distance US final on youtube and he is shrieking about an athlete not having the standard on half of them. Somebody needs to teach him about the concept of a World Ranking, he still doesn't get it and it confuses any casual fan tuning in

I thought you were some big shot journalist. How do you not know the rules. No wonder you weren’t invited to the event
