I have a buddy in his forties who is trying to train simultaneously for a fast 400m and a fast 5k, for reasons that are unclear to me. But it got me wondering: If there were a pentathlon of track running, what might it include, and how would you train for it?
Imagine over two days you had to compete in the 100m, 400m, 1500m, 5k, and 10k, with points scored from the World Athletics tables. Maybe the 10k and 400m on day 1, then 5k, 100m, and 1500m on day 2.
How would one train for that to optimize their score? Would you alternate weeks of speed and endurance, or try to touch on all 5 each week? Would 800/1500 training get you most f the way there?
It's a bit of a silly exercise, but I'd be interested to hear other peoples thoughts.
