Once Chelimo fell off the pace, the 10,000 meter team was set: Fisher, Kincaid, and Young. In a pathetic attempt to conjure up drama where there was none, the commentators pretended that Drew Hunter--who does not have a qualifying time and cannot qualify via his world ranking--was in the hunt for a team slot.
From the outset, there were only four men in this race with a shot of making the team: Fisher, Kincaid, Young, and Chelimo. This was well known to Letsrun readers, but I don't think it was ever clearly stated on the broadcast.
Let's hope that they don't make the same mistake in the rest of their Trials coverage.
Remember, Letsrun readers:
* Cohen and Kessler have not yet run the qualifying time (1:44.70) in the 800.
* Waskom and Sahlman have not yet run the qualifying time (3:33.50) in the 1,500.
* Wolfe, Hunter, and Kincaid have not run the qualifying time (13:05.00) in the 5,000. Indeed, Kincaid may skip the 5,000 for this reason.
* Valby does not have a qualifying time in either the 5,000 (14:52.00) or 10,000 (30:40.00). If she makes the team in the 5,000, I suspect she will opt not to run the 10,000.
* Schweizer has not run a qualifying time in the 10,000.
* Wilkinson does not have the qualifying time (8:15.00) in the steeplechase.
Maybe a few of the above will be able to qualify via their world ranking, but most will not.
