Fisher's final 1600 meters last night was 4:06.52. His last lap was 58.12.
At the Olympics, the winner of the 10,000 will run the last 1600 in 4:00-4:02. He will run his final lap in under 54 seconds. That's what we saw in Tokyo in 2021 and that's what we saw at the World Championships in both 2022 and 2023.
Yes it was hot last night in Eugene, but it was hot in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Of course, the 5000 meters will be even more competitive as Fisher will not only face the East Africans but also Ingebrigtsen.
The field Fisher beat last night was weak. Kincaid was coming off of an injury. Young peaked two months ago and was barely able to hold off Drew Hunter, a 13:08/27:38 guy. Chelimo is a shadow of his former self.
Bottom line: Fisher's kick is not even close to being competitive on the world stage. Relative to the competition, he has lost ground over the past few years.
Predictions: Fisher will lose to Cooper Teare in the 5,000 final next week. He will not finish in the top five in either the 5,000 or the 10,000 at the Olympics.
