Is this a viable early-season workout for a fall marathon?

Saw this one a long time ago--a 2x2 but with speedwork at the end. 10 miles total. A buddy of mine told me it was a good one while base-building, and to be done in the middle of the week.
I don't know enough about marathon training, as I normally like shorter distances (5k to 10 mile) but have run a few (not fast lol). It looks like it has elements that would benefit both types of races.
