I’m a HS coach originally from the Midwest and now based in the southeast and it seems Paavo has followed me down here. I personally never partook in this system but had a college teammate who did and after hearing about never taking a day of for XX amount of days, I knew it wasn’t for me as an athlete. This teammate never got better fwiw. I don’t feel that philosophy would jive with how I coach at the HS level either and I’ve had some pretty decent success in my years at the helm.
But now I have one of my 50 boys I coach asking to latch onto this philosophy since our rivals train that way. I have yet to come across any athlete that continued an upward trend at the collegiate ranks. Can LR point me in the direction of athletes who have? The other program constantly has kids injured and missing seasons and I just don’t desire that for my team. Even if they don’t continue on at the collegiate level, I’ve always been proud that the majority of my runners continue to run as a lifelong sport!
