What's the biggest jump you've ever seen a HS kid make in a season. I had a kid transfer from another school. Started senior year with a PR of 5:18, finished with 4:38.
RN I have a kid who seems to be getting serious about training. Granted, he was already pretty serious about it, but he never really put up any fast times. Current PRs of 4:52 / 10:27. So far this summer, he's averaging over 50 mpw (which is slightly more than his previous high). He has 53 second 400 speed, FWIW. This week his big sessions were
M: 6 x 3 min fartlek with 1 min recovery, averaging 850m per "on". My top guy from last year is home from college and ran with him on this workout. They both got a kick out of it.
W: 4 miles easy + sprint drills + 4 x 150 @ 20-21, full recovery
Th: 3 x 2 miles with 5 min rest. 12:06, 11:59, 11:46. Said the rest was too much, I wanted to make sure he got in 6 good miles, hence the 5 min. We'll be cutting it down to 3 min next time he does the session
55 total miles this week
Any guesses as to what he'll do this year
