Interesting. 10 years ago this wouldn’t have happened. The rise of social media is very beneficial for the hybrid influencer / athlete hybrid.

eric holt wouldve liked that lol
She's an elite 1500 runner. Social media certainly helps, but its not like she is just some influencer who got a deal.
elite?
Great for ASICS. I will now switch my fat hobby jogger shoes from the hoka Cliftons to the ASICS gel nimbus because of their support of this mid influencer chick

She’s 3/4 influencer 1/4 athlete in my opinion.

rachelmcarthur_ - I’m so proud and excited to announce that I will be joining @asics to further pursue my professional running career. This has always been a dream of mine and words cannot express how excited I am for this journey to finally begin! And what better place to make my professional debut, than the Olympic Trials in 2 weeks ☺️🇺🇸
All of the thanks in the world are owed to my mom, my family, my coach Ben Thomas, my boyfriend, my close friends and teammates, my agent @riadharunning and especially @banditrunning for the immense love and support they have given me this last year. I would be nowhere without you all! Thank you. 🩷
🎥: & A huge thank you to the immensely talented @annie.boos
The reality is that a brand will sell more shoes with an athlete like Rachel McArthur than somebody like Eric Holt.
It doesn't matter what sport you are in, often being a big social media platform makes you a lot more valuable than just pure merit alone.

Wow, you guys are tough. She's recently run 406 after being injured last year, and although she seems very influencery, she is absolutely elite with her recent times. Not yet world class (what would that be, sub 4 for 1500?), but elite.
With Kerley out, ASICS had some extra cash.

It’s a good thing she didn’t get them for you, sparky.

She’s the reigning US Road Mile champion, so I guess that’s something.

She wants Jakob's attention because he is the fastest male in the domain.
One day she'll realize it doesn't work this way.
I mean she has a 4:06 this year. She won the road US mile title right? I feel like she deserves it at this point. A year ago her getting a contract would have been unthinkable. But most people in the 4:06 range have a deal I would imagine:
Who?

They're probably not paying her that much. I mean, good for her for making some improvements after injury, but it's not a Valby-level deal. Nothing to see here really.
So far this year the only US runner younger than her who has run a faster 1500 is Wiley.
Anyone who seriously questions her getting sponsored is a moran.
