Just watched the 2 mile at Nike Outdoor "Nationals". It was one of the most anti-climatic races I've ever seen.
With supershoes and double thresholds, high school kids who are running 60-70 mile weeks need to stop being wimps and letting these stacked races go out in 4:25-4:30.
It took 6 laps before Robert Mechura decided to be the only man in the field and actually inject pace.
There are several of these big meets each year that manage to pull together a field of 10+ guys who can run sub 9 or guys who can run sub 4:05, yet in these races, time and time again, you see everyone let the pace slip.
I miss the time that we had gutsy runners who weren't afraid to take things out hot and ride it. There's a reason these high school records are somehow still staying around despite the immense improvement in depth.
We need another Pre.
