Looks like a Vanderbilt runner finished in 2nd in 16:15 in the 5000 yesterday at U20 and then was DQed for shoes. Rule 143.3. Anybody know what she was wearing?

What was the issue with the soes? Were spikes too long?
Does anyone have a subscription that has watched the video?
Can anyone rule out the obvious and most likely cause, that they were wearing road racing shoes (eg.vaporflies) ? which is permitted and common in ncaa but not in usatf which follows world athletics?
Valby just used the life hack vaporflies with spike plate in her recent win. hers were custom, but highschoolers were doing it themselves a few years ago.

Stack height.
The NCAA has no shoe rules. World Athletics does. Coaches know this. You have to declare your shoes at any NCAA meet that is World Athletics certified, if you want a ranked mark.
At an NCAA meet you don't have to wear a WA legal shoe; the mark will count for NCAA purposes only. But if you wanted a mark for pretty much everything else (like for U20 qualifying) you need to declare and wear a legal shoe.
At any other high level meet, outside the NCAA, you obviously need to comply with WA regulations.
This is a result of lack of clear communication or poor oversight between the coach/athlete. To qualify for the race the athlete had to have had a race in legal shoes (or mistakes or forgery happened).
Harsh lesson. NCAA allows like anything in terms of shoes, but that isn't world athletics rules. Top athletes need to be aware of this.
If you break a rule, not knowing the rule is no excuse - they are published for anyone to read.
Valby ran in legal spikes specially provided to her by Nike, but qualifying marks from THE WHOLE MEET were thrown out because someone ran a different race in high stack shoes. That means ALL MARKS IN THAT COMPETITION, including jumps, sprints, hurdles, SHOULD BE THROWN OUT FOR WA PURPOSES!

This is a different issue. Valby wore what I believe were not WA legal shoes at the NCAA meet. She knew she would not be running faster than she had at Bryan Clay and had no need to get a qualifying mark. Probably looking to keep legs fresh.
The NCAA does not regulate shoes and she already has her qualifying marks in legal footwear. She could wear whatever she wanted at NCAAs.

^^^THIS IS HUGE NEWS!!! This even goes against historically RoJo’s interpretation of Valby’s shoes (I.e. that her high stack 10000m race would not count for qualification, but her legit low-stack spikes in the 5000m would count for qualification.)
THIS IS HUGE NEWS, and I think for credible journalism, Gault should write up a full-page article that should be pasted front-and-center on LRC’s front page.

Wrong. Valby WAS wearing legit stack height shoes in her 5000m race, shoes that Nike specially provided to her. It is Valby’s mark in the 5000m that is being removed from WA’s ranking system.

1) I am pretty sure (not 100%) that Valby was not in legal shoes (even, if only because the shoes are not readily available). But I already outlined why that is a non issue.
2) Marks at NCAAs can count. WA has a process for declaring shoes at NCAA meets. You can compete at a NCAA meet and opt not to have your performance be recognized by WA or you can declare your shoes and register a legal mark.

You need to get your facts straight. I already told you, Valby was in high stack shoes in the 10000m but in legitimate stack shoes in her 14:52 at Natty’s.
Please, quit spreading lies and disinfo on the internet

Gault doesn't have time for such triviality! He's deep into investigating the nefarious and Stalinesque censorship of "Growing Up Ingebrigtsen" per the boss.

But Valby’s 5000m at Natty’s actually WAS run in legitimate spikes. The recent uproar has to do with the fact that WA for some reason is not recognizing the 5000m mark, because she ran the 10000m in high-stack shoes. Some people are even claiming all results from a meet are thrown out for ranking purposes if only one athlete is wearing illegal gear. 🙄
