1:47.58 to win the boys 800 at Brooks PR. Came back from a 20 meter gap with 200 to go and dominated that last 150. Really impressed with his pacing and racing tactics for being a freshman.
What is the world record for 15 year olds? The HS record is going down.
Have to wonder what kind of mile time he could run with 1:47 800 speed.

The former world record was high 1:49s. He was just off it at the Texas State meet, but broke it when he ran 1:49.12 a few weeks ago. So, he's taken more than 2 seconds off the age 15 WR this season.
In fact, as far as I remember, in addition to being a class record by 2+ seconds, this would also be a sophomore class record, AND a junior class record.
Phenom doesn't even begin to describe this kid. Praying he stays healthy cause some serious records are going down if he does.

I figured a Kenyan would have ran 1:45-1:46 at 15. I hope Lutkenhaus qualifies for the OTs with this performance - I’m sure the pros could pull him to a 1:46.xx
Does anyone know if this is his first year of running? Did he run in junior high? It's an amazing time, but if it's his first year of running that's out of this world.

He played multiple sports throughout MS--cross country, football, basketball, and track. He started to train with his brother after the completion of his MS season in April last year.
Here was his progression in May and June last year:
1:56.2 time trial
1:56.20 TTFCA Meet of Champions
1:54.20 Brooks PR Invite Junior 800m
1:53.59 Nike Outdoor Nationals Junior 800m (ran 48.70 on the day between 800m races)
----------
This is his first year running year round. Mileage is low 20-25 mpw. He's only 15 years old, as has been discussed multiple times. He qualified for the Texas State 5A XC Meet and finished 47th.
He's very talented (duh), but very disciplined with the little things, that are really the big things. Recovery, nutrition, hydration, rest, etc.

Seems to be his 3rd year running based on what I could find (athletic.net results). Not sure why this needs to be mentioned however as it is out of this world either way. Man broke the Freshman record by 2 whole seconds, and no Junior or Sophomore has ever ran faster.
I didn't know what he looked like so I watched the whole race trying to pick out who he was, and when he crossed the line I was so shocked that I thought I may have been watching the wrong race (they also just said "Hilby!" the whole last 100m). That was awesome
I think Brandon Miller ran 1:49 as a freshman and then stagnated till college. Hopefully Lutkenhaus stays healthy and progresses smoothly, because that 1:46 could get obliterated in the next few (3!!!) years.

Kitum ran 1:42 at 17 and Amos ran 1:41 at 19 so these are definitely not accurate records. Maybe the non-African records. Kaki also 1:42 at 18. Kosencha 1:44 at 16...I could keep going but you get the picture.

A 15yo with 47.3 speed just ran 1:47.5 and the first thing you wonder is what kind of miler he could be lmao
This kid is the best pure 800 talent since Brazier, I hope his coaches can limit the mileage and keep him happy and motivated so he can continues to develop over his high school career
You're right that African athletes are not listed in these "international" records, but then there is no good age verification system there, and while Amos, doping, ran 1:41 again many years later, that was Kitum's high water mark, so he was surely considerably older at the time.
It's reasonable to think that he could be a great miler, because he runs even or negative splits in a race where the best usually run positive 2 second splits.
