That’s unreal. Wow. 4:06.43 was for the last 1600m. 5:10.8 for the last 2k…this is best 3k/3200/2 mile performance ever by a U.S. HS boy.
And Allie Zealand closes a 9:41y with 4:43 last 1600 at the same meet 🤯
Leaves Hendengren, Allori and Leachman in her dust.
Why are you neglecting the 8:29.46 by Lukas Verzbicas?
Does that performance make Zealand the current high school ‘generational talent’ ?
I think he's saying that a windy 8:31 with a 4:06 second mile in a high school only race with no pacers is an intrinsically more difficult accomplishment than an 8:29.46 with professional pacers and runners.
Aren’t top 5 in the 5k averaging 4:06 per mile ?
Okay.
Is not Zealand’s performance the record? What is the confirmation behind Bryne Brown’s time trial, besides maybe(?) a video (and videos can be doctored)?
Top 5 pros in the world? Yeah sure…who cares? This thread is about a U.S. high school kid: keep it in that context.
4:06 last mile is crazy tho jesus
edit bro wtf I just realized that's a 4:25 first mile that's such an insane negative split to run 2s off the national record

Yes, that’s what I’m saying. Running 5:10 for the last 2k, leading the last 3 laps, makes it more impressive than Verzbicas’s 8:29 based on splits/competition. If you want to bring up the super-shoe component, sure, it complicates the comparison. And of course there’s always Gerry Lindgren’s 8:40 on a crappy undersized indoor track in 1964 to think about.
Won’t there be an enroute 3200m check on Zealand’s two mile race? That mark should eclipse all of the current 3200m times on the Wikipedia all-time list page.
Craig Virgin wouldn't even have been in the camera shot with Griffith.

This. Griffith’s run is equivalent to an 8:37 without the ability to train and race in super shoes. Still a great run, but not at the level of Verzbicas.
I meant 8:39. Griffith’s run is worth 8:39 in regular shoes. That makes Verzbicas 10 seconds faster.

I'm certain that if there was a camera shot, Virgin would have been in it.
Virgin ran 8:40 in less than optimal conditions for a record attempt.

Leachman racing way too much. DNFd the 5000m at Portland track festival a few days ago.
I agree. Leachman is also slated to run the Nike Outdoor 2 mile on Friday night and the Nike Outdoor 1 mile on Saturday afternoon. Too much for a 16 year old girl; hopefully she isn't actually running both those events. Imagine if she also finished the PTF 5k on this past Sunday night...
What the hell was that? Freddie Crittenden just ran 18 seconds in the hurdles
