Keen to get some thoughts from the qualified minds of LR. I've got a marathon coming up, been averaging around 40km (25ish miles) per week for the last few months. I have run upwards of 60km (40 miles) for the last two weeks with two long runs:
- 32km (20m) avg pace 4:25 (7:05) with 16km at 4min/k - felt pretty good.
- 30km (18m) avg pace 4:40 (7:30) with hills - 400m vert.
On the side however I do a lot of biking and swimming, my main background is swimming.
This is only my second marathon, I've run a 3:05 (5min bonk) on less volume (30-40k pw) last year.
PB's all from last 6 months include:
17:05 5k, 36:30 10k (at the end of a triathlon) and a 1:19:10 HM on a hilly course.
I got a feeling sub-3 is achievable. Would you push for closer to 2:50, or is this a bad idea? Course is pancake flat and cold (southern hemisphere).
Fire away.
