I'm going into my senior year of high school (17M) and I'm really trying to take my training seriously, running more often, making sure I'm running too hard, better recovery, etc. However, despite my PR's being around 15:30 for the 5k and 4:19 for a 1600m, I still can never get my heart rate to drop below 170 on easy runs even when the pace is 8:30/mile+. And it's not just been this summer that it's like this but all this past year as well. Am I still pushing myself too hard despite me not feeling like it or what's going on to make this happen?
