Intro
Hey friends -- I'm hoping to get some help from you guys to determine a reasonable completion time for my first legitimate marathon. I walked/ran the Long Island Marathon in 2013 with no training and finished in > 5 hours. I think I actually came in last place!
These days, I've gotten back into long distance running and want to give it a sincere try. So here's what I'm working with.
Stats
- Male, 6'0, 175lbs, 29 y/o
- Former D1 tennis athlete
- Recent 5k of 22:30
- Currently running 45 miles per week, on week 4 the Hal Higdon Advanced Marathon 1 Plan. I don't take rest days unless needed. On prescribed rest days, I run between 3-6 miles easy.
- My easy pace is between 9:30 and 11:30 minutes per mile
- My tempo/threshold pace is around 8:30 minutes per mile
- I run 400/800m intervals between 6:30 and 7 minutes per mile
Final Thoughts
I don't have a goal marathon in mind, though it'd be nice to run one at the end of this program. I'm also willing to prolong the training period and run a later marathon if that's a better idea.
Would a sub-3:30 marathon be too far out of reach for my first attempt? Will the plan I'm following get me there? What indicators can I use to gauge my fitness in order to determine what a reasonable marathon time could be for me in, say, 4-6 months? A year?
Thanks!
