To state the obvious, the coverage by ESPN is MUCH better than what we are fed by NBC. At least the ESPN announcers are prepared and are very knowledgeable about the sport. The NBC talking heads are neither ...
10k coverage was really bad. Three full commercial breaks and six cutaways during the race, including a cutaway during the bell lap to show a slowmo of the fall. Both steeple heats also had a full commercial break. All of this could easily be solved with a split screen. Just let us watch the races.

Agreed, the 10k coverage was criminal. A few cutaways early are understandable, but at a minimum the final 8 laps--usu the most dramatic part of the race--should be shown uninterrupted with focused commentary.
I've criticized Anderson in the past, but his back-and-forths with Neugebauer and a few others were well-played.
They wouldn't even run the 10k if the 200m athletes didn't need rest for the 4x400m. You should be praying to God that they don't cut the 10k all together (they should).
The commentary was awful, but you can mute it so...
I’d pay to watch a stream of the race without commentary or commercials… rather than pay for what we got which sucked
That is kind of my complaint. I think it is one thing to break away for ads for the broadcast on ESPN2. But for the stream on ESPN+, for which we already pay a monthly fee, I object. Raise the monthly fee $2 or whatever and take away the commercials!
OK, Imma beg to differ (a little). Yes, a split screen during cutaways would have been very nice ... BUT we didn't miss a damn thing. That had to be one of the most boring races I've ever watched until the fall. They did a nice job playing up Alex Phillip and had us rooting for him to do well, but otherwise there was nothing to see but several hired 'student' athletes taking turns not pushing the pace very much.
The 10,000 is usually a grind for 23 minutes and then 4-5 minutes of racing and this one was more like 2 minutes of racing. It might have been better but Phillip pushed the pace briefly but then slowed down and intentionally tucked back behind the leaders.
Main complaint was that I could only rewind a few minutes. I had never seen this before. The bar was on bottom of screen but all the way left was a tiny rewind regardless of what point in the meet was happening.

So I think this has to do with the fact that you can’t watch the event in full with the on demand option until the entire broadcast is done.
I had a work dinner and got home around 10 o’clock and was hoping to just start it from the beginning and fast-forward through downtime, but I only had the option to watch from the beginning or watch it live.
Once the 4 x 400s were over, it let me start moving around. But even then, I had to switch over to the on-demand option.
It seems like they would allow you to move around in the broadcast if you’re a paying ESPN+ member.
