Outside of a final WC, his most recent win was a 10k in Madrid back in December 2022.
And his last DL race win was in May 2022.
Put another way, it's like saying, "outside of the WC's and Olympics, the races that actually count, Cheptegei hasn't won a race otherwise." This board's hatred for Jakob and Chep, among other greats, is just plain amazing.

He's there when it counts
I'm not going to count him out because he has gotten it done previously when it matters, but he may be past his peak at this point. I think Kiplimo is the one to beat in the 10K. Cheptegei can certainly medal.

The guy is a 3x 10k WC, and Olympic gold medalist, and WR holder. He can do whatever he wants as long as he's winning the most important races.
If he wins the 10,000 in Paris, what do you think of this direct quote: "If I win gold in the 10,000, I don't care about the 5,000." That's legendary lol.
And yet there he is, on top of the 5000 and 10000 lists. If not for cheat-shoes, he’d just be one more over-looked runner that no one gave a second thought about.

Didn't he get smoked in the 2022 WC 5k final and skip it in 2023?

Didn't he win the 10,000 at BOTH 2022 and 2023 WC's?

What about Kejelcha, Gebrhiwet, Aregawi and Barega (whoever of them qualify for the Ethiopian 10000m team)?
