Around March 28 I experienced achey pain in the head and "inside top" of my tibia, on a couple of runs it felt like a pronounced weakness, though it would fade as I ran. Looking back the culprit was probably a dumb hero run on 3/24 which capped my fourth consecutive 80 mile week. That's not high for me historically but it's solid of course.
The pain didn't get any better, I backed off running gradually and didn't run at all in May. I've been on my bike a bit to save some vestige of fitness but it's not working.
Got an MRI on 5/10 which showed a very visible Grade 2 stress reaction on my left tibia, though quite a bit lower than the ache had generally been manifesting (sensations have been all over the place and I've had some aches at the shin level for sure, but generally it's been in the top of my tibia). Doc was sure this was the culprit and I'm sure he's right though at a subsequent visit I ask what "all the white" was up nearer where I felt the pain and he realized there was some mild bursitis as well.
My medical visits are just vibes at this point and I don't imagine I'll go to another. "Pain" has never been more than a 1/10, which in some ways is even more frustrating than the alternative. "A race" of my life is at the end of August and the logistics are locked in - I'll be there unfit and racing or miserably observing either way. I'd be starting from zero if I returned to running tomorrow.
Just ranting. But I would welcome any and all thoughts, including as to the possibility of returning to running, other treatments I haven't tried, war stories whatever. For the record I've been wearing a neoprene sleeve for (sweaty) weeks, supplementing with Calcium and Vitamin D and, to the extent I can, staying off my feel generally.
