Good afternoon comrades of the competitive running community alike.
I instruct a fast-track 6 week summer school session here in San Antonio for the biology department, but it doesn't start for another week. This down time between outdoor track and summer school allows me to meet with my runners to have film session time and other beneficial activities.
This morning, I met with my kids at the university field house and I utilized the good Ole projection reel to watch "the loneliness of the long distance runner" from 1962. In black and white. What a phenomenal film is it!
The Cockney accent in the film is a tad strong. 3 of my kids fell completely asleep. I couldn't believe! How could they with such a classic film from 1962 that garnered a 5 star rating and 100 percent on rotten tomatoes?
I absolutely adored this film. The acting. The screenplay. The cinematography. The directing. The cast. Most importantly, the moral behind the story of using running as a tool to collaborate togetherness and overcoming juvenile delinquency in order to become a healthier and more successful and productive member of society.
After being so intricately involved in running and coaching for all of these decades, I can't believe that I personally had never previously viewed this classic film. I highly recommend this film for all other coaches to broadcast to their runners. Be sure to use an old fashioned projector reel if possible, as it amplifies the nostalgic experience of the whole educational ordeal.
