I just did some repeats on my nearby hill that I've been using when I realized that I'm not totally sure what the grade is. I'm not overly concerned because I can tell that I'm improving when looking back at older workouts. However, it got me wondering how everyone else determines their hills or if it is solely by feel.
Because MapMyRun says it is roughly 7% while my Garmin FR245 says ~11%. However, my Garmin cannot possibly be right because it also tells me a loop I commonly do has ~3.5% undulation when it is not nearly that hilly. So I think the Garmin is doubling the actual elevation. But still, it's somewhere between the two I assume.
Now I ask you all, how do you figure out the hill grades you use? Or do you eyeball it and categorize them simply as low, medium, and high grades?
