You will not find a lot of faster freshmen than that. Of course, you had Sumner last year, Brazier back around 2016, and Ryun in the 1960s, but it's impressive. He could potentially make the Trials finals this year.
He was one of the first guys out, yeah. He ran 1:46.75 at regionals but clearly had a lot more in him since today's time was 1.58 seconds faster. I guess his focus has to be on the OT now - he's the 7th fastest American this year, 0.01 ahead of Clayton Murphy.
He went through 400 in the lead in 51.59. My complete guess is that he couldn’t survive such a pace on that particular day and when the bear jumped on him he went south mentally too. The 800 can be hard.
Does it mean much if he didn’t make NCAAs? Sure, it’s a great PR and offers some consolation for the freshman. He’s got plenty of time.
Oregon usually does this kind of thing as well, very quick times after getting knocked out of NCAAs. Sometimes the runners peak a bit too late and aren't fresh for their championships.

I saw him at several HS meets, he is just untapped. He went to a nothing (athletic wise) high school and his ceiling is unknown. This may be his ceiling but then again, it might not be. Seems like a great kid and always looked to be enjoying the racing when I saw him.

Exactly what happened..pulled Dolan , now a four time Big East Outdoor winner thru and to a new PR of 1:45.7x I think. This guy could run for his National Team at Olympics though, right?

His national team is the United States...
Why not pursue citizenship in (I believe) Malawi for it? If it's like any other country, jus sanguinis would apply and he'd automatically make the team if he runs under 1:44.70
