I am a highschool athlete with a PR of 1:49 in the 800m. However, in my last race, I ran 1:52. For reference, I am a 4/8 type but my best races come from even/negative splitting. This was not that, it was 53/58 splits
The difference between this race and my other successful races was that I decided to take the lead for the first ~650m of the race, and then got passed by the entire field on the last 100m.
I still feel like I left everything on the track and am not super beat up about it, but I am wondering WHY front running like that took the race out of me so much more and made it so that I couldn't kick at all, and obviously lead to me running 3 seconds slower than a race 5 days before. Just trying to figure out the reasons 🤷♂️
