There you have it folks, the guy is not the same as last year. Opened up with a 3:27.95 last year and now struggles to go under 3:30. All downhill from here with this new baby coming up and his lack of motivation to train. A bunch of africans ran under 12:40 as well so no gold for him either in the 5k with this fitness. New Olympic Champions in Paris this year: Josh Kerr and Yomif Kejelecha!

Last year he opened up with a 3:32.59 in Rabat May 28th. His 3:27.95 was at Bislett games June 15th.

You think he was going all out in that race? The guy dove for a time that was just under 3:30, he is done this year, accept it. Maybe next year he can win with all winter to prepare.

I don't think anything I just know that he didn't open up with a 3:27.95 last year as you said, that was over two weeks after his first 1500 competition, with a 3000m in between. His opener in 2023 was a 3:32.59, over 3 seconds slower than this years opener.

The difference is that Jakob was basically jogging that 3:32. Now his limit is just barely under 3:30. That is not enough to win this year and unfortunately he will lose.

That might be, but the key point in your argument was still wrong.

The first official "Jakob has peaked/ is done" thread this year.
I think the openers wish (sorry: meant prediction) will go the same way as the many similar threads during the years.
Thoughtsleader who is not a fanboy but one of the rare unbiased poster has already pointed out that Jakob possibly ran on tired legs.
I didn´t dare to state the obvious afraid of being attacked by the biased British patriots for always making excuses.
But I dare to predict that Jakob - if he doesn´t get any traning setbacks - will break 3:27 in DL Monaco.

Heh yeah. I don't take much negative at all from this race. He ran a good race, and showed a lot of grit to win it. He will have to be better to win in Paris, there is no question. But people projecting 5 days after Pre and 9 hours of travel or whatever it is that he was going to crush a quality, more rested athlete like Tim are underestimating how hard it is. I still rank Kerr higher and favor him, but that might have most to do with Jakob's stubbornness to win the hard way (from the front) than being patient/flexible like Kerr will be. It's clear Jakob is already in pretty good shape.

Yeah, I hope Jakob adopt his Tokyo's strategy. Let other lead until the final lap. Kerr Nuguse or even Tim wouldn't really want the race to be slow, so he doesn't really need to push the pace himself.
Only on LetsRun can the season be declared over because someone ran a world lead in an event and won a Diamond League race over a former World Champion.

Yeah I said on the other thread I was surprised how he ran this one - I'm not really surprised at the result (3.29 high) or that someone got really close to him. I did have a fleeting moment around 9am this morning where I thought, man - he might not even win today because as you say here, this was really a really arduous schedule he had over the last 100 hours, but I landed on him still getting it done, though I think we were all a little surprised at the renaissance of Toilet-seat Timmy.
I do think his grit today was a positive, a huge one - but I don't think that run put any doubts or fears into the mind of Josk Kerr at all - and might have even fostered some more hope in a guy like Wightman.
It's a really tough one to accurately read into - it wasn't his most dominant (usual) performance on the DL - but it had some genuine contributing factors. I think we will know much more after Rome and his final hit-out before Paris (guessing that will be Monaco).
