Been running for almost 3 years now, I been averaging 45 ish miles with two tempo or V02 during peak mileage off season and following my coaches plan during the season. This past 8 months I bumped up the mileage to 50-55 maybe sometimes 60 a week and no matter the race, I'm still stuck at a high 4 to low 5 minute mile, its really frustrating because it seems like high school kids nowadays just seem to have the most huge jumps within a year or two. Why is this the case, do I need to increase mileage? Weight train even more? Do more workouts? Am I just that untalented at running?
further details: How my season is usually structured out for xc and track is I first build up to peak mileage doing roughly two tempo workouts a week (I take a down week or two when my legs feel really bad), slowly introduce one V02 workout and one tempo workout for another block of training and when there's roughly around a month of the season left my week is switched to two v02 workouts per week with the last week before the race being short but really fast workout ex: 14 by 200
