Hello. For over a year, I have had strange and progressively worsening symptoms in my left leg. I can no longer run and for the past two months my walking has been impacted (that's when I started pressing the panic button and seeking out more help). Symptoms are: extreme heaviness/constricted feeling in my leg during all exercise (but running is the worst), slightly "jerky" gait, painless left gluteal spasms, shortened left stride, and the sensation that my spine/pelvis is out of alignment while running.
I wish I had been attacking this problem sooner (coulda woulda shoulda), but I'm now just in the phase where I'm doing tons of tests. I recently had an X-ray that revealed severe narrowing at L5-S1. Following up with an MRI and EMG.
Today I had an ankle Brachial index test (non-exercising) to rule out blood flow issues to my legs/peripheral artery disease. Results:
Left Leg: 0.82 & 0.90; Left Arm: 0.93
Right Leg: 1.02 & 1.07; Right Arm: 0.96
It is my understanding that you divide the highest number of the affected leg (0.90) by the higher of either arm (0.96) you get the ABI, which for me is 0.9375. I've heard that anything under 1.00 is not "normal" and that under 0.95 there could be a problem. What do you guys think?
