I'll be starting my second year of XC coaching at the HS level and I have decided to switch from running for mileage to running for time/duration. At a small rural school, we have a wide array of runners, so I think this help me best control daily efforts.
I break my team into 4 groups based on experience, with group A running the most and group D running the least.
I built my team up to 8-11 mile long runs last year with the same concept. Now with moving to time, what are the ranges of times best suited for HS athletes for their longest long run(s) of the training cycle?
I currently have Group D building up to 70' and Group A building up to 100'.
Thoughts, too long, too short?
