If I take my half dozen best times across 5k, 10k and HM; there is only on average a 19 second per mile difference between 5k pace (avg 5:46) and HM (avg 6:05). The 5k to 10k is even closer, only 6 sec/mile difference; so 13sec between 10k and HM.
As a benchmark, in JD's tables, a gap of more like 30sec from 5k pace to HM, is typical for runners of my level; so clearly my 19 seconds is a bit outside of the norm.
Can I take anything from this with regards to how I should structure my training? What types of sessions might be of most benefit? What may be less important etc.? I'm interested in others views on this, and how any advice might align with my personal preferences (or not) and what I've been doing up to now.
I've often trained in a JD style and I don't think I've neglected the shorter faster stuff - if anything sometimes I feel I do too much on that end; but that doesn't seem to be reflected with my 5k being comparatively weak.
