Jane Hedengren just ran 9:52.96 for 3200m at the BYU track (4,600 feet). Absolutely ABSURD time - this converts to around 9:36 at sea level.
Why do people on letsrun not understand that times run at altitude do not carry the same weight for people who have lived there for their entire life?
Why do people on letsrun not understand that every single person is affected differently by altitude no matter where they have lived? Yes standard altitude conversions are a joke for their one size fits all approach. But you cannot discount a time simply because the runner has lived at altitude their whole life.

Serous question on that. If Jane came down to sea level, wouldn't she run faster? Her lifetime at altitude would allow her to run faster in the richer oxygen environment of sea level?

I don’t know, I feel like you’re kind of missing the point. Like Leachman running that at altitude is probably a different story but that’s still just insane
How to win friends and influence people. Why would you say Jane is 10x the runner Leachman is? You could mention she was sick in their last head to head but they’re both outstanding and neither is 10x better than the other.
Jane is 10x the runner that Elizabeth is. When Leachman who at nike indoor in nyc, Jane had the flu.
Expect Addy and Jane and Sadie to go 1 2 3 at all future national events, with Leachman not even making the top 10.
10x better is a lil bit of a stretch. I would say twice as good is more accurate. Jane has much better form, runs relaxed, has a good modest winning attitude, more consistent, has more overall potential, and comes from a much cleaner environment.
I'm ready to see the people that really matter go head to head. At this moment, those are the girls out west. Engleheart, Ritz, and now Jane in the mix.

I highly doubt she was sick. I watched that race in person. The way Leachman cut the pace down, I don't think any high school girl ever could have beat her that day. Go re-watch that race and then look up the splits. I sat there dumbfounded with what I had seen.
