I have a question about peaking for the 1600 and 3200. We're getting close to the last 3 meets of the season, and all 3 are 2 day meets with the 3200 and 1600 on different days. The week before the conference race I wanted to do a hard race pace workout like 800s at mile pace (we've done 600s, but not 800s), but my coach is having me do some tempo mile intervals then finish with a few 400s and 200s (5 days before the first race).
She says that since I don't need to be at 100% to win conference and qualify for state, those races will be my race specific training for the state meet, and she thinks maintaining my aerobic base is more important than getting in another race pace workout. She also isn't cutting my mileage as much as I think she should at this point. I didn't do great at the state meet last year, but I barely qualified, and she thinks we cut back too much too soon, but I'm worried this is an overcorrection. Is it normal to do tempo stuff 3 weeks before your peak race? I trust my coach a lot, but I'm probably just overthinking it.
