Hey, I'm a high school runner currently in 10th grade. I do XC for my school in the fall, and race in the 5k. My current time is a 17:28 and I am hoping to improve to a 16:00 flat by the beginning of the upcoming fall - I know it's ambitious. I am coming off a track and field season where I ran distance and hurdles. I plan to swim competitively in the summer during June and July. I also plan to race in 2-3 road race 5k's during the summer. I'm just looking for advice on summer training for this race. Specifically, two questions. Firstly, I'm planning to split my training up into segments with each segment featuring goals for my performance. I want the last segment to be stuff like: sub 16:00 road race 5k, 4x mile repeats @ 5:05 pace, 5x 1k repeats @ 3:00, etc. Is there anything I am missing in my training? In addition, I am wondering if anyone has any experience with these sorts of time drops. Do you have any tips for me as I attempt this? Thanks everyone! 🙏
