I believe that forced hyperventilation before repeat 400’s alkalinizes the blood and thereby buffers the lactic threshold. Interested if anyone has tried this method before for longer intervals? Granted one looks like a fool huffing and puffing for 1min plus. I have seen videos of zatopek doing 100m wind sprints holding his breath. Does training lung capacity in this way (similar to free diving) result in gains on the track?
